history

hardwareshop is the result of the work of three brothers whose family has been involved in the hardware and building industry for over 25 years. Working together with the compare internet group, they have developed the ultimate online hardware store.

The team felt that the Australian hardware market was dominated by a small group of massive hardware retailers whose stores were too big, too confusing and too crowded. The team felt that there had to be a better way of getting a product to the customer. We did not just want to be another on-line retailer and we wanted to do something a little bit different to your run of the mill hardware store.

All that meant rethinking the traditional hardware business and going back to basics. It meant a thorough analysis of international on-line hardware retailers. It meant developing a secure site that was easy even for the internet novice to use. It involved an emphasis on things like quality hardware products, comprehensive product knowledge and information, competitive pricing, handy hint pages, a contact page, great gift ideas, hardware hampers©, gift wrapping and fast Australia wide delivery. The answer was hardwareshop - Australia's premier online home improvement store.

The launch of hardwareshop signals the beginning of a new era in Australian home improvement and a throw back to the days when the shop assistant at your corner hardware shop actually knew something about hardware and cared about what they were selling.

quick tips

  • Heat mark on polished oak table? Remove with a half/half solution of turpentine and linseed oil. Dip a cloth in the mixture and rub gently over the white stain. Polish when dry.
  • Got a fresh oil or grease stain on upholstery? Sprinkle with talcum powder, cornflour or fuller's earth. Rub well and leave until the stain is absorbed. Brush off and wipe with a damp cloth.
  • Need to patch up small areas of chipped paint? Use a cotton bud - no brush to clean and no obvious patch marks!
  • Did you know? You can loosen tight screws in wood by dripping a little vinegar on their heads. When the vinegar penetrates the threaded sections, they will be easier to unscrew.
